First Contact - is a new information, advice and support service in Hertfordshire. It enables older people to access a wide range of community activities and services in their local area.

First Contact is delivered by a team of Community Agents who aim to help older people stay safe, active and independent in their own homes. Community Agents are local people who are trained to provide a high quality information and advice for free to anyone over the age of 50.

With permission they can put people in touch with local organisations that can help with Health, Transport, Socialising, Safety, Leisure, Volunteering, Housing and Learning.

    First Contact partners include:

    NHS Hertfordshire

    Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service
. A referral will involve a visit from the Fire and Rescue Service to carry out a home safety check, fit or test smoke alarms and provide advice on fire services.

Hertfordshire Constabulary. Our Community Agents have been fully trained by Hertfordshire police to provide advice and guidance on home security measures. If you live outside an area where a community agent is based, a PCSO (Police Community Support Officer) can visit you at home to provide advice and guidance.

NHS Stop Smoking Service. A referral will result in a specialist contacting you to provide advice and help including group and individual support in your area.

Carers in Hertfordshire offer a wide range of support services for carers, and one of their team will contact you directly to offer support and services.

Citizens Advice Bureaux and the Pensions Service. If you live in Watford only, First Contact can refer you directly to our partners to provide advice on benefits.

District and borough councils. If you need any advice about housing, then First Contact will make a referral to the relevant local council on your behalf. The housing team from the council will then contact you.

Travellink. If you do not have access to a car, or are unable to use public transport, the Travellink team can advise you on services available to help you.

Hertfordshire Home Security Service. This service is available if you need repairs to your home or security devices, such as window locks, fitted. There may be a small charge for this service. On referral, the service will contact you directly.

Adult Care Services. If you need any care or support in the home such as equipment or home care a member of Adult Care Services will contact you directly following a referral from First Contact.

Climate Energy/ Warm Front. These organisations support people to make their homes more energy efficient by offering insulation and heating services. They are government funded organisations and can sometimes offer free or discounted services.
